I know I can't be the only one that has asked for this, but any chance for a mac edition? I'm running a windows VM for the sole purpose of using second copy to synch files between a primary and secondary NAS....

Admin reply: Thank you for using and supporting Second Copy. We do not have Second Copy for Mac at this time, however we have this on our wish list. Unfortunately we cannot estimate when Second Copy will be available for Mac.

Glad that this project is still on.

I'm laughing when reading (Professional!) reviews that "SC is not a true backup", or "it doesn't do images, emails and bookmarks". People forgot how to use their brains.

Windows does image backup just fine and you don't need this every day.

Bookmarks? Find where it's stored in Program Files and create a profile in SC.

Emails? Didn't try, but I "suspect" that email client like Outlook also has these files stored on hard drive, so you can create a profile. Besides, most servers will keep emails for 30 days or longer.

Hi Suda,

I have been using wonderful Second Copy, daily, since (at least) 2001, and I absolutely swear by it. Many thanks.

I have a WD MyCloud home server, which is a nice piece of kit (the hardware), and SC is ideal for backing up to it. However, the remote access and synchronization software that WD supply is very poor. You, if anyone, could help them to improve their product. Check it out!

All best wishes,
James

Many technicians can backup programs and files and restore them to newer operating systems on computers for customers. There is also the option to do fresh installation of operating systems and installing more then a few disk drives for hard disk storage. These are formatted for the application of storing files to the disks. They can also be removed and installed in other machines as well as used on DVDROM and removable storage devices. :!cool: :!cool:

Suda,

I have been using Second Copy for a long time (since Win95, I think) and love it! I depend on it to keep my files backed up between monthly “cloning.” I wouldn’t change anything about it.

Today I was going to ask that you add the ability to ignore specific folders, but Oops! You already thought of that (“Tips and Tricks”).

Blessings on you, Suda!

Admin reply: Hi Pepper,

Thank you for your compliments and loyalty to Second Copy. Positive feedback such as yours keeps us going :)

Best regards,
Suda

I purchased second copy 8 some time ago and loaded it onto my computer (windows 10). Whenever I try to copy with second copy the program is not available with the icon. It always says the program has been changed or moved. The help, quick install, etc are still there but the program is not. This has happened for at least 10 times and each time I have to reload the whole program. Any ideas what the problem is?

Admin reply: For future reference: Please email your questions to "support@secondcopy.com" instead of posting them on our guestbook.

Second Copy 8 works with Windows 10.

When Second Copy is installed and started successfully, you will see the Second Copy icon in system tray. Left mouse click on this icon to open the main Second Copy window. (If you do not see the Second Copy icon in the system tray next to the clock then make sure that it is not hidden by Windows.)

Thank you!

I don't see any way on your web site to to ask for technical support, so here goes. I had SC7 for many years and upgraded to SC8, and still have the same problem. When I click on the log icon to view the log, SC hangs forever, and the only thing I can do is go into the Task Manager and kill the process and restart SC.

Could someone contact me please and help out.

Admin reply: For future reference: Please email your questions to "support@secondcopy.com". On our website on the top, you will also see "Support" page where our email address is listed.

Just in case, if the log file is corrupt please exit Second Copy. Then delete log.rtf file from "\Documents and Settings\<Username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Centered Systems\Second Copy" folder. (where, <Username> is the currently logged in username.) In Vista and Win-7/8/10, log.rtf file is stored under "\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\Centered Systems\Second Copy" folder. (where <Username> is the currently logged in username.)

Then start Second Copy from the Start menu, and run the profiles again. Then view the log.

I would like to have the option of have the date of an exact copy be part of the filename so that if a new copy is made to the same folder it will not overwrite the previous one.
I currently have the "Second Copy" created on a flash drive that can store more than 12 months of the copies. I retain all of the copies by renaming them entering the date into part of the filename. When the drive start to get nearer to being full I delete some of the daily copies retaining them on a weekly or monthly basis. I have yet to have the large capacity flash drives get full.
Once in a while I don't get the filename renamed and end up with it being overwritten.

Admin reply: For future reference: Please email your questions to "support@secondcopy.com".

You can use "Keep last" xx old versions feature under the "How?" tab of the profile to store up to 25 old versions. You can get to the "How?" tab when you select the Custom setup for the profile.

If you want to store more than 25 old versions or by date, you can use the built-in feature of Directory Macro Expansion.

Using Directory Macro Expansion you can automatically create folders based on the current date or time and define them at the destination specification to copy files by date and time.

Example: On August 9th 2016, a folder name C:\Backup\$Date$ will expand to C:\Backup\20160809.

Here goes 2 suggestions:

1) Please, remove those red "X" beside each profile on the Second Copy 8.1 panel. They pass a false impression of copy failure each time I look at them. I don't see any use for it.

2) Please, add a new feature to Second Copy making it work as a windows service.

I love Second Copy and use it everyday for 13 years now. Perfectly reliable.
I recommend it to all my friends and to the companies where I have contacts.

Congratulations for this fine software. :)
