I don't see any way on your web site to to ask for technical support, so here goes. I had SC7 for many years and upgraded to SC8, and still have the same problem. When I click on the log icon to view the log, SC hangs forever, and the only thing I can do is go into the Task Manager and kill the process and restart SC.

Could someone contact me please and help out.

Admin reply: For future reference: Please email your questions to "support@secondcopy.com". On our website on the top, you will also see "Support" page where our email address is listed.

Just in case, if the log file is corrupt please exit Second Copy. Then delete log.rtf file from "\Documents and Settings\<Username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Centered Systems\Second Copy" folder. (where, <Username> is the currently logged in username.) In Vista and Win-7/8/10, log.rtf file is stored under "\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\Centered Systems\Second Copy" folder. (where <Username> is the currently logged in username.)

Then start Second Copy from the Start menu, and run the profiles again. Then view the log.

I would like to have the option of have the date of an exact copy be part of the filename so that if a new copy is made to the same folder it will not overwrite the previous one.
I currently have the "Second Copy" created on a flash drive that can store more than 12 months of the copies. I retain all of the copies by renaming them entering the date into part of the filename. When the drive start to get nearer to being full I delete some of the daily copies retaining them on a weekly or monthly basis. I have yet to have the large capacity flash drives get full.
Once in a while I don't get the filename renamed and end up with it being overwritten.

You can use "Keep last" xx old versions feature under the "How?" tab of the profile to store up to 25 old versions. You can get to the "How?" tab when you select the Custom setup for the profile.

If you want to store more than 25 old versions or by date, you can use the built-in feature of Directory Macro Expansion.

Using Directory Macro Expansion you can automatically create folders based on the current date or time and define them at the destination specification to copy files by date and time.

Example: On August 9th 2016, a folder name C:\Backup\$Date$ will expand to C:\Backup\20160809.

Here goes 2 suggestions:

1) Please, remove those red "X" beside each profile on the Second Copy 8.1 panel. They pass a false impression of copy failure each time I look at them. I don't see any use for it.

2) Please, add a new feature to Second Copy making it work as a windows service.

I love Second Copy and use it everyday for 13 years now. Perfectly reliable.
I recommend it to all my friends and to the companies where I have contacts.

Congratulations for this fine software. :)

Perhaps my most trusted software application. Apps and developers come and go, but second copy saved my dissertation when my computer was stolen, knows the difference between cloning and synchronizing, and is very reliable.

Is it really 11 years that I have been using Second Copy?
It has done everything that I have tasked it to do, on time, correctly and so easily.
I am now retired 11 years and I purchased SC so that I could manage everything at home and at my level without the horrendous prices my employer had paid out.
Well done Guys.
In the near future I will deffo be upgrading to Version 8. :!inlove: :!kiss:

I used SecCopy 2000 for many years, great product.

Recently I purchased the latest SecCopy 8 and installed it on my new Windows 8.1 x64 laptop.

It installed fine, and after entering the lic number, the SecCopy screen went away. Started SecCopy, pointer waited for a few seconds but no SecCopy screen. Tried it again with "Run As Administrator", but no SecCopy screen.

Panicked a little, and found it running in Task Manager. So checked TaskBar icons and voila it was there !

Launched it from the TaskBar and promptly changed Options to uncheck Minimize On Startup.

I would recommend that "Minimize On Start" option should be unchecked in the installer or a note in big bold letters added to installation instructions, to look for it among the TaskBar icons.

Hope this helps OTHERS facing this situation.
Cheers !

Second copy profiles does not run multithreaded. For example : When running a profile, source disk and destination disk "file search" threads must run simultaneously. (Because of fast operation).

I have tried unsuccessfully to purchase second copy. It seems your purchase form lists NO states for Australia. Why is this so? My country is listed but no states!
How can I purchase yoru excellent product??

Admin reply: We are extremely sorry about the trouble you have experienced while ordering Second Copy online.

In the States field, leave it blank (select blank that is listed above USA in the States field.) Then select the Country as Australia. Then proceed with the order.

Please let us know if this helps.

Thank you,

I've recently begun using Second Copy, and love the fact that it has 'Archive' folders (that you can actually see) that keep changes/deleted files etc. for Synchronized Profiles, and in the Destination location.

Would it be too much to ask to also have a kind of Windows Explorer Tree view for the Profiles as well as the Tabs? I think this would better help me keep 'tabs' on the different types or groups of profiles that I run (YES, THE PUN IS INTENDED!).

Also, is it possible to suspend only certain profiles instead of all of them at the same time? Sometimes I want to suspend a number of Profiles while I'm doing various disk 'housekeeping', but also keep others running.

Admin reply: In future, Please send your questions via email to "support@secondcopy.com".

Thank you for your compliments and suggestions to Second Copy. Positive feedback such as yours keeps us going :) We have added your suggestion to our wish list.
